Unlocked Cell Phones - The Benefits
>> Monday, September 7, 2009
What are unlocked cell phones? What does unlocked mean? Some people may not know the difference between the regular phones they buy (locked) or unlocked cell phones. The difference between them is day and night. If you purchase a phone through a carrier such as Rogers then in essence you are purchasing a phone that is "locked" to Rogers. The term locked means you can only use that phone with that specific carrier.
Unlocked cell phones can be used with any carrier that accept sim cards, or otherwise known as GSM carriers. This is great because you can switch from one carrier to another if the other carrier has a better wireless plan than the current carrier you are with. Most carriers will allow you to sign up for a plan with them without a contract if you bring in your own phone.
The most important benefit of unlocked cell phones is freedom. Do you travel lots? If your cell phone is unlocked it can be used just about anywhere in the world. For example, let's say you have a trip overseas to somewhere such as Dubai. With an unlocked cell phone you can use your phone in Dubai with any GSM carrier available there. This way you can avoid roaming charges with your current carrier. Unlocked cell phones give you much more freedom when it comes to personalization. With unlocked gsm phones you have the ability to install new applications that you would normally not be able to do if you had a locked phone. Take charge of your wireless freedom.
